Why are Woolworths and Big W no longer on Price Hipster?

That's a really good question. It all has to do with some hostile changes Woolworths has applied to their web servers to block traffic to their websites. Presumably they are doing this to block nefarious traffic, but their clumsy implementation also blocks legitimate traffic, such as from Price Hipster's web crawler. One would have to assume that since Woolworths tries to position themselves as a price competitor to Coles that they would be keen for users of Price Hipster, their customers, to be able to track and be notified of price drops. This suggests the problem is more related to incompetence rather than malice on the part of Woolworths.

What can be done about this?

It is certainly possible for Price Hipster's web crawler to work around this issue. The question is if it's worth the time and cost of doing so. The time that is spent working around Woolworths' shenanigans could be better spent on developing new features and improving Price Hipster in others ways. There are about 250 stores on Price Hipster and all of them except Woolworths are working with Price Hipster in a supportive manner. Last year we had a similar issue with Coles but we were able to work with their security team to find a solution, which is why Coles is still available on Price Hipster.

Numerous attempts have been made to get in contact with the appropriate team at Woolworths, but no one at Woolworths seems willing or able to look into this issue or to put us in contact with someone who can.

Coles' products are still on Price Hipster. Please consider voting with your wallet and giving your support to Coles until Woolworths stops making their websites so hostile to consumer-friendly money saving tools such as Price Hipster.
